Detailed description of Glen Dornoch Golf Links

Glen Dornoch Golf Links is a Resort 18 holes golf course  located in Little River, South Carolina.

Glen Dornoch Golf Links first opened for play in 1996. The course was designed by Clyde Johnston.

The course has elevation changes, which is unusual for the area.  Holes #9 and #18 converge on a double green and border the Intracoastal Waterway. It is common to see a number of boats while playing these holes.

Glen Dornoch is full of character. Hole #3, a short par-4 at 300 yards from the tips is a prime example. It plays 285 yards from the blue tees and 272 yards from the whites, so it’s reachable for a lot of people. The hole is a slight dogleg and two bunkers guard the left front of the green. If you go for it, your tee shot needs to stay to the right to avoid the bunkers if it comes up short.

Black tees: par-72, 6,890 yards
Blue tees: par-72, 6,446 yards
White tees: par-72, 6,035 yards
Gold tees: par-72, 5,617 yards
Red tees: par-72, 5,002 yards

Played here 6-1-10 for the first time. Was paired up with three other players, none of whom had played here before. Fortunately, the info book handed out with the scorecards is very comprehensive, and was of great value to us. Not a typical Myrtle Beach course, as there is some modest elevation change to provide interest. Very nice design: no two holes look alike, and there are ZERO homes on the course. Tough, but fair, layout, with only a few "tricked-up" holes (like #15). Fairways are generally fairly tight. There is no OB, so anything off the fairway is basically treated as a water hazard. A fair amount of water throughout, and lots and lots of bunkers. Greens are pretty large, modestly contoured, and despite being in very nice shape, putted fairly slow today. Course is probably not suitable for walking, especially for seniors, due to distances between green and tees. Clubhouse is very impressive, fronting and facing the Intracoastal Waterway: the building looks almost like it belongs on Cape Cod, with its frame style, shake roof, and white trim - very nice effect. Staff was competent and friendly, and made us feel welcome. I highly recommend this course for a challenging round.

Would travel: 60-120 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Ranks with the best in this price level, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
